🌿 Torre Camigliati: a journey through nature, history, and silence

In the heart of the Sila Grande, a few kilometers from Cosenza, stands the Camigliati Tower: a monument of national interest that recounts over three centuries of history. Surrounded by a 70-hectare private natural park, protected for its landscape value, the tower is a perfect example of Calabrian baronial residences. A place where time seems suspended and nature becomes the silent guardian of ancient memories.

Built in the second half of the 17th century, fortified in the 19th century, and transformed into the famous Itas Camigliati luxury hotel, the Tower has hosted nobles, intellectuals, and even members of the royal family. Today, thanks to extensive restoration, it serves as a cultural center and guardian of the beauty of the Sila.

🌲 Trees: discreet protagonists of a living landscape

Strolling along the paths of Torre Camigliati means being embraced by a landscape that breathes, changes, and welcomes. Here, every season evokes new emotions: spring unfolds a tender green among the treetops, summer offers coolness beneath dense foliage, autumn transforms the park into a palette of reds and yellows, and winter, with its stillness, lets silence reverberate among bare but living branches, often blanketed in pure white snow.

The Camigliati plain  is a vegetal theater where the trees are silent actors: each with a voice, a story, a form. Some stand proudly against the Sila sky, others stand out along the waterways, still others seem to guard ancient secrets in secluded groves. Every trunk, every leaf, every seed guides the gaze and invites us to slow down. stagliano lungo i corsi d’acqua, altri ancora sembrano custodire antichi segreti nei boschetti appartati. Ogni tronco, ogni foglia, ogni seme accompagna lo sguardo e invita a rallentare.

The beauty of these places knows no unlucky seasons: every month of the year offers different hues, unexpected plays of light, ever-changing scents, and sounds that change with the wind. Walking among the trees of Torre Camigliati is like walking through a never-ending tale, made of living nature and memory.

Here are some of the trees that populate this extraordinary landscape:

🌸 Spontaneous blooms: the poetry of the meadows

Strolling through the fields and along the paths of Torre Camigliati, it's not uncommon to encounter explosions of colors and scents that seem to paint the landscape day after day. The wildflowers represent the most delicate and secret soul of these places: they are small botanical miracles that bloom in the open fields, on the edges of fields, among the trees, and even along the streams. Here, nature works discreetly, yet with a mastery that leaves you breathless.

Every season has its wonders. In spring, the soil is bathed in pastel shades: chamomile, violets, blue cornflowers, and the first wild orchids appear. Summer amplifies the vitality of the meadows with the yellow corollas of St. John's wort, delicate amberjacks, wild strawberries hidden among brambles, and thistles with surprising geometric patterns. In autumn, the tone warms, and as the leaves fall from the trees, the late flowers tell a final tale of beauty before winter. Even in the coldest months, when everything seems dormant, a careful look is enough to notice the resilient green of chicory rosettes or the red berries of holly.

The fields of Torre Camigliati are like this: alive, poetic, always in dialogue with those who pass through them. An invitation to slow contemplation, to daily wonder, to the discovery of a world that grows freely, without haste or fuss.

Here are some of the main spontaneous blooms that embellish this landscape:

🦌 Fauna: a living and breathing ecosystem

The life that inhabits Torre Camigliati reveals itself in all its authenticity, made up of silent glances, discreet presences, and slow movements. It is a living, breathing nature, open to those who know how to explore with respect and curiosity.

In every cornerof the property, along the paths and in the open fields, you can sense the presence of a diverse fauna, living in harmony with the landscape and human activities. It's not uncommon to spot tracks in the mud, hear a sudden call, or hear a crackling in the branches: these are signs of nature that is there, watching, and moving.

But among all the presences, one is the most obvious and at the same time the most reassuring: the cows. Large, calm, and sometimes curious, they graze freely across almost the entire estate from late June to December. You can spot them in the sunny fields, in the shade of a tree, or calmly crossing the grassy clearings. They are silent guardians of the land, familiar presences that make every glimpse even more authentic.

This balance between the ever-present yet never-invasive wildlife and the free-range grazing of the cattle gives Torre Camigliati a unique character: that of a living landscape, where animal life is not a guest, but an integral part of the environment. Every visit is an opportunity to feel part of this world, to breathe in a harmony that evokes the flavor of ancient times and the freshness of the present.

Here are just some of the animals that populate this ecosystem:

🌰 Pine cones: signs of conifer life

Among the tall canopies of the conifers that inhabit Torre Camigliati, each pine cone tells a story. They are small treasure chests of wood and resin, containing seeds ready to be released to the wind. You'll find them at the base of the trees or nestled among the branches, each with a unique shape, with geometries that seem patiently sculpted by nature.

Black pine, Douglas fir, larch, giant sequoia: each species leaves a different signature on the park's soil, and those who walk with keen eyes can pick up these traces, imagining the journey each seed will undertake. Small, dark alder cones were once even used in aquariums to create natural microcosms, while some fir cones were used as vegetable dyes.

Pine cones, therefore, are not just fruits, but symbols of a continuous, silent, and magnificent life cycle. They are the whispered voice of trees that, even when no one is watching, continue to build the future.
