Built in the mid-17th century, Torre Camigliati was transformed and fortified in 1820, taking on much of the character it retains today. It was not merely a residence, but a <\/span>strategic garrison<\/b>\u2014 an operational and administrative hub for managing the agricultural, forestry, and cultural activities of the Sila plateau.<\/span><\/p>

In the Barracco family archives, it is often referred to as <\/span>\u201cla Difesa di Camigliati\u201d<\/span><\/i>(The Defense of Camigliati). This term perfectly captures its dual function: a guardian of the territory and an assertion of identity and authority. Torre Camigliati was simultaneously a home, an office, a seat of representation, and a sanctuary.\nThe very fabric of Torre Camigliati is recognized as a monument of exceptional historical and artistic significance, protected by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Per oltre due secoli, Torre Camigliati \u00e8 stata il cuore pulsante delle attivit\u00e0 della famiglia Barracco nella Sila. Fino agli anni Venti del Novecento, la Torre ha svolto il ruolo di <\/span>hunting lodge<\/b>and the administrative seat for the Sila holdings\u2014a lighthouse for the economic and cultural life of the region.<\/span><\/p>

La propriet\u00e0, oggi estesa per circa 70 ettari vincolati come bene di altissimo pregio naturalistico e paesaggistico, era parte di un sistema territoriale molto pi\u00f9 ampio. I possedimenti della famiglia Barracco, infatti, arrivavano a coprire una parte della Calabria, configurandosi come un vero e proprio <\/span>landed empire<\/b>, the most extensive in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.<\/span><\/p>
